WHAT:
Ideal for engineers, technicians and contractors, this one-day course will provide a knowledge base for hydronic and steam product applications.

Topics include:

  • Flow control and balance for heat transfer coils (including piping details and valve selection)
  • Basic air management for closed loop system (tank sizing and point of no pressure change)
  • 1 & 2 pipe layout design strategies (including identifying the ‘critical circuit’)
  • Primary secondary or constant and variable primary systems
  • Hydronics system flow determination and pipe sizing guidance
  • Pump fundamentals
  • Parallel and series pumping
  • Variable speed pump control practices (including feedback sensor location)

Presenter Bio: Mike received a Mechanical Engineering degree from the State University College at Buffalo and has 24 years of practical experience in the application, design, and troubleshooting of hydronic and steam systems. His industry career began as an Outside Sales Engineer for a premier manufacturers’ representative company, working with all levels of project stakeholders to ensure the correct application and selection of products, proper piping system design, and evaluation of existing system problems. Currently, Mike is the Education and Training Manager for Commercial Business and HVAC at Bell & Gossett, a Xylem Company, which includes the oversight of the Little Red Schoolhouse training facility, web-based training, and content updates to technical manuals. Mike is a Past-President of the Western New York Chapter of ASHRAE, a Certified Instructor and Pump Systems Assessment Professional (PSAP) for the Hydraulic Institute, and for the last 15 years, and has been a Special Instructor for multiple Steam and Pipe Fitters Unions Apprentice Programs in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
